For the tourists, the main Miami attractions are the beach, the sand and the palm trees and swimming in the Miami beaches is a wonderful thing to do, a great opportunity to enjoy with the loved ones and get some sun rays. It’s also an opportunity to get some exercise or just to relax, it can also be a social activity to meet some new people or throw a party. In Miami there are also many other attractions as the Art Deco District, the Everglades, the Miami Seaquarium and more But for the last couple days that seemed pretty much impossible throughout South Florida. Most of the beaches on South Florida have been infested with a creature that I’m sure none of us would like to encounter, the jellyfish, you also can find and learn about the jelly fish at the Miami Seaquarium, other of the amazing Miami attractions. It seems that an army of these jellies have been seen all throughout the east coast of southern Florida, a really big army at that.

The creatures have been showing up at record high numbers, so the result of that have been flags being raised on beaches throughout Florida. Some beaches had to take drastic measures and even raise two flags, red flag means beach is closed to swimmers, and the purple flag means that there is dangerous water life lurking in the water, usually when a couple jellyfish are spotted in the water it’s no big deal, the guard tells you to be cautious, but the numbers of the jellyfish in the water are too great to just ignore. One life guard said, “If you’re going to go into the water you are going to get stung.” And trust me you don’t want to get stung by a jellyfish, let alone a whole army drifting about the beach. Sometimes they are really hard to spot as well, so even if you try to avoid them you have a chance of getting stung out of nowhere.

This isn’t so great for tourist either, imagine you’re trying to have a great time in Miami with your friends or family and you’re only visiting for a couple days but haven’t visited the beach yet but you only have 2 days left. You couldn’t go in because of the invasion, it sucks this ruins some peoples vacations. Experts say that a series of storms off the coast in the last days have blown these annoying creatures to our beach shores, and the reason they’ve been sticking around like glue is because the lack of wind has kept them from going anywhere which is tragic news for beach lovers. Hopefully they will subside soon so we can all go back to being happy campers.

The species of jellyfish that have been seen during this raid is the species “moon jellyfish” they are more harmless than most jellyfish but can still sting you good, they’re also a very common species of jellyfish, the Portuguese man o’war and the cannonball jellyfish are also normally seen in the Atlantic ocean as well and you can find them at the Miami Seaquarium when you visit this Miami attraction also with world class marine animal shows. The only solution for this problem is to make other plans for the week, or if you still feel like going to the beach try not to get to close to the shoreline and maybe just have a nice relaxing picnic with friends and family, we’ll be able to splash in the water soon enough!
